Held in partnership with the Publishers Association, the London Book Fair (LBF) International Excellence Awards are a celebration of publishing and related activities outside the UK. The LBF is the global marketplace for rights negotiation and the sale and distribution of content across print, audio, TV, film and digital channels.

The Chair of the Jury, Kate Harris, former MD of Oxford University Press’s Oxford Education Division, said, “The panel were impressed with the way Parag encourages mother-tongue ‘reading for pleasure’ by providing access to children’s literature in regional languages. They noted that this is a sustainable program, developed to considerable scale. The panel particularly liked the inclusive approach of the program which works with a range of partners and publishers, to maximize its impact for young readers.”

Parag won the award in the ‘educational initiatives’ category. The Parag initiative was launched by the Tata Trusts in 2005-06 to support the development of, access to and use of children’s literature in Indian languages, to promote reading among children.

“We are thrilled to get the award, which is also a global recognition of the importance of reaching books to all children and educators in India. This hugely motivates us to continue doing our best to nurture and catalyse the children’s literature sector and spread the joys of reading,” said Swaha Sahoo, Head, Parag Initiative.
