Children’s authors and illustrators, take note! If ten-year-old children are capable of this amount of creativity, you had better match up to it! Have a look at what these children from Parikrma Centre for Learning, Jayanagar, created for a story writing competition in connection with Kitablet:

1. The contest was to write a story (to be specific, comic strips!) with some of the characters from Moin and the Monster by Anushka Ravishankar (Duckbill), and this kid wrote about a whole family of monsters! Well, it is not suggested in the initial part of the script, but, after a look at that terrific illustration, it sure is a certainty!

2. The detail in that monster! And a robot at that!

Jory’s friend presses a button and the monster became a big monster.

Then Jory took scissors and cut the wire.

3. The child seems to have thought, “There is always an ending when I’m about to get bored of this writing, doesn’t matter whether the reader falls off the chair laughing!”

A perfect ending to the monster–no blood, no murder, just “Poof”, vanish, just like that!

It is especially noteworthy how the imagination creates a convincing sage with just one half of the extended arm!

4. It is admirable how some of them stick to the original plan of the competition and make some sort of connection to the book:

5. Ooooooh! Look at the mix of colours on that one! Looks straight out of the imagination….and the creator is just ten years old!

6. When it comes to script, they have millions and millions of ideas! Look at this one based on Petu Pumpkin Tiffin Thief by Arundhati Venkatesh:

7. This one had an out-of-the-box ending where the monster, in the guise of a rickshaw driver, offers  them help:

So Authors and Illustrators, take a deep breath, pick up the pen and paper, and go crazy. Seems like that’s what they love about books!

Any takers for these young storytellers?

The Fine Readers

One day in office, we were going through the reports of children reading on Kitablet and we noticed that one particular school had overshot the graph.
